Arnold was deployed in Maya in such a way that you have to pay AD more money to regain the functionality that MR had, if you want to stick with the out of the box renderer. If they were publicly acknowledging that Max, itself, may be going away, wouldn’t you have some pretty strong doubts about Max’s future?ĪD owns Arnold, and has a financial incentive to leverage it, vs. I don’t really see, semantically, how that’s much different than what you are proposing.ĪD has publicly acknowledged that MR may be going away for 3ds Max.
To be fair though…I did use the word “may” in the title, and even said in the bulk of my post that obviously this wasn’t a 100% confirmation that Max was losing MR, in it’s next version, just a pretty strong possibility. My take on the issue is almost certainly being colored by the fact that we, ourselves, are having our recently acquired Maya subscriptions dramatically affected by these changes. I apologize if the title seems a bit sensational, that wasn’t really my intention. The 2018 release is almost a year away, and there is no info available to you regarding Mental Ray in the 3ds Max 2018 release.
HOW TO SELECT MENTAL RAY IN 3DS MAX 2018 FOR FREE
I don’t think anybody would miss the fresh news that Maya 2017 only comes with an interactive license for for Arnold ( blocking Maya while rendering ) and has Mental Ray removed, with a “Beta version for free use” soon to be available directly from Nvidia.Ĭurrently Max 2017 still has Mental Ray and iRay integrated and will always have ( even that keeps being falsely stated by prominent sites as Iray doesnt just come bundled with Max any more ). Is it because rumor cooking works better with your title ? Like “Mental Ray for Maya 2017 has been axed, will Max follow ?” Why do you not give this thread a less sensational title ? It should end with a question mark at least I thought it was worth it to give Max users the potential heads up, if you use MR heavily. A lot of Maya users, on subscription, were apparently blindsided to learn that they were going to have to purchase seats of MR, suddenly, to keep using their work, or waste their subscriptions. This isn’t a 100% confirmation, obviously, that MR is going to disappear from Max come spring, but the writing appears to be on the wall. This is to be contrasted with MR, which allowed for batch rendering, and had some network rendering out of the box.
